Kidnapped Taraba Lawyer Ibi Hosea Found Dead

Taraba State has been thrown into mourning following the death of a kidnapped lawmaker, Honourable Hosea Ibi.

Late Ibi, a lawyer and member representing Takum II Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, was found dead after he was abducted by gunmen on the 30th of December 2017.

The death was revealed in a statement issued by Taraba Lawyer announcing the death titled “the Kidnap Cum Gruesome Murder Of Hon. Barrister Hosea Ibi; A Dark Moment For Taraba Lawyers.” 

The statement reads:

“For long we have been waiting patiently and making several contacts praying that the news would be discarded as fake but unfortunately, the more we call, the more sorrowful the news turns out to be.” 

“This is indeed a dark day for all lawyers in Taraba State as one of the eminent members of the Bar representing Takum 1 constituency at the Taraba State House of Assembly has been confirmed dead.”

Describing the circumstances of the Kidnap it stated:

Honourable Hosea Ibi was kidnapped in his home town Takum during the festive period precisely the 30th day of December, 2017. Since his kidnap, we were reliably informed that a ransom of a hundred million naira was demanded by his abductors following which negotiations has been on going and even some payment was made.”

“We have been waiting patiently for his release but to our utmost chagrin and consternation this evening, the rumours of his death began trickling in and finally, it was later confirmed by the Nigerian Television Authority, Jalingo. This indeed is a very sad one for every lawyer in Taraba State.”

Hon. Hosea IBI hails from Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State. A product of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria which he attended from 1992 to 1998 and obtained his Bachelors of Law (L.LB). He was at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja Campus from 1999 and was called to the Bar in year 2000. He carried out his Youth Service program in Ogun State precisely in the Chambers of Osilaja and Adesina, Sagamu, Ogun State from 2001 to 2002. He later joined the Chambers of the incumbent Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Taraba State, Y.N Akirikwen and Associates, from 2002 to 2004 before establishing his own Chambers, H. R IBI and Co, in Jalingo, Taraba State from 2004 to 2005 where he was the Principal/Consultant.

He was married to Barrister Mercy Fyafa Hosea until his demise.

Hon. Barrister Hosea IBI was with the Legal Department of the Peoples Democratic Party, Taraba State from 2005 to 2015 before running for the Takum 1Constituency of the Taraba State House of Assembly which he won convincingly. Hon Barrister Hosea IBI distinguished himself on the floor of the House by his lofty contributions till his kidnap cum gruesome murder in Takum.

In a condolence message the Taraba Lawyer wrote:

“For us here in Jalingo, this is indeed a sad one. We use this opportunity to commiserate with the wife, Barrister Mercy Fyafa Hosea, the entire family, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Jalingo Branch and the entire body of lawyers in the State. Adieu Barrister IBI till we meet at the feet of the Lord where we shall part no more. May the light of the Almighty continue to shine on you perpetually. Rest well beloved Counsel.
